Grandma's Birthday!
Today I shall be thinking of my maternal Grandma Emma Drake , whose birthday it would have been today. I wish she could have seen my Art Deco shop, she died in January 1980 at the age of 94.
Thankfully her daughter my Mother is still going strong at the age of 85 , many of my customers will know her , from the days of looking after my shop at Halifax Antiques Centre , though she only occasionally ventures to Redbrick.

English Heritage fail to back Listing Plans for the Bradford Odeon!!
OSCAR DEUTSCH ENTERTAINS OUR NATION !!
This was the origination of the Odeon Cinema chain named after the founder German Jewish refugee Oscar Deutsch!
In this weeks Telegraph & Argus it was reported that English Heritage had , sadly , rejected plans to officially have the Bradford Odeon listed( formerly the New Victoria Cinema built and opened in 1930 ) in Bradford , my home City , and so it seems that the Odeon will be demolished after all!!
Will any interested parties PLEASE contact BORG the Bradford Odeon organisation who are currently trying to save the Odeon Bradford from oblivion!
Please see my Links page if you want to help!

Later in 2008 - though no doubt time will pass by very quickly ( as it seems to these days after you hit 50!! ) there are plans afoot to move me to the floor below , all being well I will be sharing floorspace with Tansu the only other Antiques related business besides my own in Redbrick Mill !
In addition I will have more floorspace in a " hidden floor " area where there will be a selection of Room Settings showing how Old and New furniture can be successfully combined !!

New pices of Art Deco furniture arriving soon!
Once again yesterday Saturday March 29th , the Yorkshire Post TV Magazine featured a full colour double page spread about the newest Redbrick showroom - on the Top Floor adjacent to the Library Cafe - where I still have my daily hot Chocolate Dream!!
As a direct result I am looking forward to meeting past customers again , and introducing many new clients to my constantly changing stock.
This week there are several new additions , including some new pieces of Art Deco furniture in stock including a selection of mainly walnut veneered occasional tables etc. There is a pop up cocktail table too!
I currently have a number of pieces with David Copley my furniture restorer ( with whom I have done business for the last 25 years !! ) including a walnut veneered cocktail table , and two grandmother clocks , one in walnut veneer, and one very unusual one which is veneered in a light honey coloured maple , and has thick circular glass rods set into a semi circular base , and a dark walnut veneered wardrobe.
For the next few weeks newly restored pieces of furniture will be added to my stock on a weekly basis.

Hooray for the Guardian Interiors Supplement!
Hooray for the Guardian Interiors Supplement of last weekend! It has certainly done it's work , as we had several new visitors as a direct result , two of whom made substantial first time purchases!
Since I moved to Redbrick I have had lots of visitors from Halifax Antiques Centre days - both customers and former colleagues, and it has been very good to see people again, in some cases after a long absence - Redbrick certainly gets a really great footfall!
Looking forward to the coming weekend , and to seeing lots of folk customers old and new through the portals of Redbrick. I have several new pieces in stock , including some occasional tables.

We are NOW open!
Hello Folks!!
Chaos reigns - no change there then! Last weekend we moved into the new area - and now we're up and running albeit in a slightly truncated form - the smaller space means less is on display but ask if you can't see what you want and maybe it might be in the wings as it were!
Still open SEVEN days Thursday until 8.00 pm!
Thursday 27th September 2007
Redbrick Telephone Number !!

My new space , located between Dark Lime and Hand Drawn Designs has been assembled and is now being painted , and I'm looking forward to the move , I'll have more wall space to hang my pictures and mirrors etc.
Remember that we are open UNTIL 8.00 pm every Thursday evening an ideal time for busy business people to call in and buy their Art Deco goodies!
This is now my ninth week at Redbrick Mill , and I'm loving it - lots of visitors and only positive feedback! It has been great to see colleagues from Halifax Antiques Centre , and I wish everyone well as they start their various new ventures at new venues!
At long last my details are now on the Redbrick Mill website www.redbrickmill.co.uk , and my showroom is open for business and bursting with all kinds of Art Deco items , not that you would know it by looking at the rest of this website , which I really do need to update!
We're open from 9.30 am - 5.30 pm from Monday - Friday, Thursdays until 8.00 pm , and from 9.00 am - 6.00 pm on Saturdays and on Sunday's we're open at 10.30 am - 5.00 pm!

Server down over Bank Holiday weekend!!!
Please accept my apologies for the fact that we had server problems over the Bank Holiday Weekend!! Just in time for regular website visitors and Daily Telegraph & Sunday Telegraph readers , responding to my series of adverts - to click onto my website - or to be more correct to TRY to click onto it only to find a Bandwidth Exceeded notice!
As you can see we're now back online so once again sorry to all visitors old and new!!
19th of August 2007
Now open SEVEN days for your business!!
Just a reminder that we're now open for business SEVEN days a week - Saturdays 9 am - 6 pm - Sundays 10.30 am - 5 pm - lots more opportunities to buy a piece of Art Deco from a Clarice Cliff Jazz greeting card to a piece of Clarice Cliff or a piece of 1930's furniture!
Thanks to customers who have commented favourably about our new showroom - there's now much more room to display the Art Deco furniture to it's best advantage and space to walk around pieces - and if Art Deco doesn't "float your boat" there are over 25 other businesses at Redbrick something for everyone!
See the Redbrick Mill website for further details of the other stores located in the complex : www.redbrickmill.co.uk - don't worry that my business has not as yet been added to this website ( sound of gnashing and grinding of teeth on my part !! ) I'm just at the top of the escalator turn right !!! Or if you use the glass elevator/lift, the lift simply turn left as you exit on the 3rd floor!
August 17th 2007
Mae West's 114th birthday!!
August 17th 2007 would have been Mae West's 114th birthday!! Nothing to do with Art Deco but I've always been a big Mae West fan and once telephoned her and wished the great lady Happy Birthday in 1977!
A friend Martin Kappinga in Holland has just created a Mae West video on You Tube - it's really rather good if you like that kind of thing! Check it out through his website : www.maewest.nl
Meanwhile - if you like Art Deco we're on the top floor of Redbrick Mill in Batley so come up and see us sometime!
July 29th 2007

On our first official day Saturday July 28th we were made to feel most welcome at our new premises at Redbrick Mill on Bradford Road in Batley . Friends bought cards and gifts of wine and flowers and even a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Champagne!
Thank you very much to all our friends and customers (old and new) who helped make our first day so very special - and very big thanks to the people behind the scenes who have helped so much in bringing Art Deco Originals to Redbrick!
We've been buying furniture for our new opening and have lots of interesting pieces now in stock - and yet more at our restorers' premises ready for refurbishing - we're on the top floor at Redbrick - so come up and see us sometime!! Muir and Roger

Yorkshire Post Feature
'All our yesterdays - today'
Stepping inside Muir Hewitt's Art Deco Originals Emporium is like travelling back in time to a bygone era of 1920s' style.
This Aladdin's cave of Art Deco items is a hidden gem, tucked away on the top floor of the Halifax Antiques Centre, in Gibbet Street, Halifax.
Here you will find a wide selection of 1920s' and 1930s' originals, from ceramics by Clarice Cliff, Susie Cooper, Charlotte Rhead and others, to furniture, mirrors, lamps and chrome.
Muir's interest in the Art Deco period dates back many years, and his experience shows in the range and quality of items on display.
